The most adventure trek over Mt. Kilimanjaro with one night on the Kilimanjaro Crater, visiting huge glaciers and sleeping at one of the highest camps on the mountain.
Day 1 – Machame Gate – Machame Camp
Pick you up in the morning from your hotel and drive to Machame gate, 1:30 hours drive. After registration, we have lunch, then start the trek through the rainforest to Machame Camp.
It’s a 5 to 7 hours hiking on a 10 km trail. We have dinner and overnight at Machame Camp.
Day 2 – Machame Camp – Shira Camp
In the morning, we have an early breakfast and get on the trail very early. We cross a valley and stream, then climb up a steeply ridge for 3 – 5 hours. The path drop into the river gorge before you climb gently into the moorland of Shira Plateau. It is one of the most fascinating areas of the mountain at the altitude of 3840m. We have dinner and overnight at Shira campsite.
Day 3 – Shira Camp – Lava Tower Camp
From Shira plateau, we continue to the east passing the junction to Arrow Glacier. As you continue, your direction changes to the Northeast toward the Lava Tower, passing the “Shark Tooth”. You then continue to Lava Tower Camp at 4560m.
Day 4 – Lava Tower – Arrow Glacier Camp
After an early breakfast, we ascend further up to the Arrow glacier to reach an altitude of 4877m with about 3 – 4hours hike time. We have dinner and overnight at Arrow Camp.
Day 5 – Arrow Camp – Crater Rim Camp
After breakfast, we trek to Kilimanjaro’s Crater Rim through Western Breach trail, which is very steep, rocky, has ice, and requires some scrambling. This intense hike time is 3 – 4hours. Once you arrive, you will need to rest. In the afternoon, you take a side-track to the Ash Cone for a peep at the big volcanic vent. We have dinner and overnight at the Crater Rim.
Day 6 – Crater Rim Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
In the early morning, you get up, for the glorious Kilimanjaro’s sunrise, which is a once in a life time sight, After a quick breakfast, we slowly ascend to Africa’s highest point, (Uhuru Peak 5895m). After about an hour on top, we will begin our very long descent to Mweka camp. You will be tired and we will have dinner and overnight at Mweka camp.
Day 7 – Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate
After breakfast, you continue the descent down to Mweka park gate. We have a short ceremony further down at Machame village. ” Kwaheri” You are transferred to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
