Most climbers, except for the Marangu route, usually descend the mountain via the Mweka Route, camping usually at Mweka camp, which sits at around 3,100 meters. If you travel another 3 hours, you can get to the Mweka gate and out of the national park.
You can also descend via Umbwe route and Shira Routes if needed. The Shira Route is usually used for emergency evacuations, as there is a road up to the Morum Barrier gates at 4,000 meters.
