Help a Porter

The International Mountain Explorers Connection has been running the Porter Assistance Project since 2000. The program was started in Nepal and now has operations in Tanzania at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro. The project consists of a clothing lending program, English and First Aid classes, and tourists education programs.

The clothing lending program provides warm, water-proof clothing for the porters. This clothing is donated by companies like The North Face, Montrail Shoes, REI, Patagonia, and many ski schools around the US . The clothing is then taken over to the locations by couriers, such as yourselves, that carry the extra clothing or extra duffel. The clothing lending program has outfitted 1000’s of porters as they make their way to the top of the mountain.

We currently have clothing in Seattle, Washington and Boulder, Colorado. If you’re interested in taking a bag and you live in one of these areas contact at ken@mountainexplorers.org If you do not live on one of these areas and are still interested your donation of shipping costs will allow us to send you a duffel, the donation is tax-deductible.
