Top of Mt. Meru, Looking At Kilimanjaro

Check out this Mount Kilimanjaro video. These climbers are at the top of Mt. Meru - Kilimanjaro’s little sister - at 4,566 metres or 14,980 feet. From above the clouds, the climbers look back at the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which shows the flat top.

As you can see Mt. Meru is much more jagged and rough at the top, unlike Kilimanjaro which is relatively flat.

BootsnAll has trekking options for those interested in climbing Mt Meru.

Orphans on Kilimanjaro

Many Kilimanjaro climbers and people headed on safari often want to volunteer and do something good for the local community. One of the best places to visit and to donate your time or money in Amani’s Children Home, located near the base of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Amani Children’s Home is just outside Moshi Town and is home to about 200+ orphans, or those have been left by their parents. Most of them are young boys, living in tight quarters in a small compound.

One of the best things to do is to visit Amani’s home, after your climb, and donate some …

Drive Around Kili!

I know I mentioned this before in a previous post, but this last January I got a chance to drive around Kilimanjaro, looking at it from all different angles. It was cloudy that day, so I didn’t get any epic view, but the moutain did peak out from time to time.
One thing is for sure. If you get off the Moshi - Arusha - Marangu paved road, there is nobody around, just the occasional village and the lone Masai herding his goat. Near Marangu there are a slew of villages, but after that, it’s pretty tame and relaxed.

It’s actually pretty …

One Year Ago - BootsnAll New Years Kilimanjaro Summit!

I am kind of sentimental today. It’s the start of new year, just a few months before my first child is born, and it’s a typical dark and dreary January day in Oregon. As I look back on the last year, I think of all the great experiences and memories. Probably one of the coolest adventure trips I did was exactly one year ago when I climbed to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro for New Years. While climbing the highest mountain in Africa on New Years sounds remarkable (and it is), what really made the trip amazing was the people. …

Kilimanjaro Skydive

One of the tour providers in Tanzania is now offering skydiving around Kilimanjaro. I have to say, it’s a great to see some new options for viewing Kilimanjaro that haven’t been thought up. It’s a great mountain that needs to be utilized in other ways besides climbing. Personally, I think it would be great to see Kilimanjaro, Meru and the Africa plains from the sky, although $399 seems a wee bit expensive.

My only issue with skydiving around Kilimanjaro is that you probably need to be doing your jump either around sunrise or sunset to get the best view of Kilimanjaro. …

Inca Trail

From time to time, I will highlight other adventure-style trips available through BootsnAll World Adventures.

Many Kilimanjaro climbers end up, or have, hiked the Inca Trail in Peru. It’s one of the classic areas to climb, just like Mt. Kilimanjaro. Check out BootsnAll Inca Trail Adventures.

The one thing you must know about the Inca Trail is that you need to book in advance. Due to its popularity, it’s very difficult to find space in the middle of the busy season. Check out our entire list of Peru Adventures.
