We just returned from hiking Kilimanjaro and used Tusker Trail. I highly recommend them. They really pay attention to the ongoing health of each hiker. Our small group of 4 had 2 guides and 24 porters. The guides were very knowledgeable and the food was wonderful. Everyone in our group made it to the top. We didn't climb at night. We left at 6:00 a.m. from a camp 1000 feet above Barafu and reached the summit at 11:30 a.m. It was breath-takingly beautiful.

I am looking to find a reliable company that can take about 15 of us fitness-oriented, middle aged (50give or take 5 years)folks up to Kilimanjaro the week before Christmas on a mid-level/upscale trip.. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.. Thanks.

I guess you will need a certain amount of tenacity and plenty of contributors to review all the Kili trekking companies. I wish you the best of luck.
By all means take a look at kilitreks-safaris.com.I would be more than interested in comments (in the public domain or otherwise)as we are a relitively new, developing, locally based company. Swimming with the big fish can be tough but so is climbing Kili.

I successfully climbed Kili last December 2005 with Team Kilimanjaro, a UK based small company. Our party was led by John Rees Evans, the company owner and we had excellent service, great guides and porters and good food. I would thoroughly recommend Team Kilimanjaro to anyone contemplating the climb. Go for the 6 or 7 days ascent, the longer the better.
Regards

I went to Kilimanjaro in September 2006 & booked through Maynardo Tours & Adventures, located in Cape Town, South Africa. We were a group of 26 from all parts of South Africa & everyone was extremely impressed with our guides, porters, cooks, etc. Everything was taken care of, nothing was too much trouble & things went smoothly throughout. I have decided to go back in a year or two & will use Maynardo Tours again.
